I'm still trying to decide what I think about this. Here are some initial thoughts:
1. The director/organizers/supervising bureaucrats were focused on *results* only and not *principles*. In the absence of any external guiding principle and where moral authority rests with whatever government officials are overseeing this production, it may have made sense for the organizers to focus on results and not worry about this minor deception.
2. This was just another example of "special effects"...something that is more like a Hollywood production than an attempt to hide reality. Yang Peiyi did actually have her name in the program, right?
3. On the other hand, why couldn't they allow Lin Miaoke to lipsync to her own previously recorded singing? Or find 1 girl who was deemed acceptable for viewing and for hearing? Anyway, I think Peiyi is quite cute and who cares about the crooked teeth, she's a small child!

Still thinking about what this situation means and what has been the reaction.

Hi Aw, sorry for my mistake. I actually meant to say under website box that I don't have one and wrote 'nil' there. I now understand I should not write anything if I don't have a website. I apologise if I caused some confusion. It won't happen again :)

Yes. The people are just feeling unfair for Peiyi.

BTW, you're always leaving an unavailable URL (your website address) here, which is even not a website. Would u please take a check next time, thanks :)

(That's because the wrong URL may direct the readers to an unwanted location)

I understand the disappointment most people felt, not just in China but around the world when it was realised that the sweet young girl who delivered the song in such a sweet voice was just mimicking and the actual singer was shut out of the limelight. Cosmopolitanvan is right to say credit should have been properly accredited officially by the organising committee.

The world understands the need to do such substitution in order to achieve the effect the directors were aiming for and audiences were held spellbound by this singular scene when it was presented. I know I was. They were just disappointed rightful credits were not extended to the real singer who probably deserves as much, if not more credit.

first of all Kudos to both two girls~~ Lin has adorable appearance and Yang has heavenly cute voice, its perfect match. I think it is no problem if the committee acknowledge and explain the lip-syncing beforehand to the nation and the world, however it seems not the cast. it is the media and blogsphere firstly disclosed the lip-syncing and committee was forced to clarify.

What a sad thing to hear of this news, at such a great success and knock-down enjoyment. I wish if the news could be a fake one. However, I myself even had a thought flitted at that moment when the nice little girl was singing: "Is she singing by her own right at the site?"

We should probably say “假唱(Jia Chang)" in Chinese for this case of singing. I know quite well on what Aw meant about the "hypocrisy". For I was told by a famous director that it was used very often in a big occasion since it would be much safer than real singing in case the singer has something wrong suddenly. I think It is reasonable and understandable if it is limited in some great occasion such as the Olympics Opening only and not to be popular usage!

Talking about what stories on "hypocrisy" Aw faced, I think it is another mind pollution in China and should be got rid of in the future, but it would take a long time.....
