As far as your research works and publications are good, no matter who you're the university will be willing to admit you as potential faculty. Anyway, it is true that there're many mainland doctors who went to US and came to HK to be faculty members. I think the reason behind this is that they're willing to do so, not because the university has any preference. But, US background is usually prefered by HK Univs and by those Research students applying for admission to the Univs. I don't think hk universities have much preference on this issue.
