Eariler today, I followed a tweet from Twitter to this link, A new approach to China. After reading this entry, I felt so sad!
I'd been working as a vendor for Google China during Oct, 2008 to Apr, 2009. (Except some very detailed ActionScript codes, I have NOTHING TO DO with Google or Google China)
Personally, I am quite sure that every Googlers from Google China loves this country so much. Google China had tried its best to improve the search experience in China and had achieved a lot of great localized projects, including Google Music. And I can't imagine how big trouble/pressure they've faced since it'd be a nightmare to censor every single word in the serach result pages. Even with the best affort, Google China was blamed for many times about "spreading illegal information" in search result pages.
Quit from this country would be a great relif for those hard-working engineers. (Though Baidu also faced the same troubles, they are based in Beijing and easy to control/compromise.)
Goodbye, Google (China)!
Pictures of Google's headquarter in China (via a friend of mine who's working at Google China):

恭喜google 脱离苦海
Currently, it is not a good time to quit. GG should insist operation until the Chinese real estate bubble begins to burst.
走吧走吧,这当太监的滋味确实不好受。
说得好!!
What we've been hearing is that China was trying to hack into the accounts of human rights activists.
While it's sad that Google is pulling out, it might be the right thing to do in reaction to really awful moves by the Chinese government.
With Google gone, and with YouTube, Twitter, Blogger, etc, all blocked, it's like China is closing itself off to the rest of the world.
RIP, China.
It would be very sad for all on Earth if China closes its people from the rest of the world.
It is scary that in such modern times, governments that react just like possessive domestically violent husbands can ensure the people who live in a country can miss out on so much.
I do not mean in a material sense because material items come and go as they get upgraded; but by the ability to share information and ideas.
This sharing promotes growth and the ability to stabilize situations that need to be worked through.
for example, environmental issues; human rights; medical breakthroughs.
This is the worst message i get today.
I rather don't want to see that tommorrow there are two Internets in the Earth, one is Internet, and the other one is Chinese Internet.
I was really sure some of Chinese history will not be shown again just like 200 years ago.
But this is truly happening.
I'm so sad and disappointed about this.
Goodnight,Google.cn.

For the social stability, public in Sinkiang only can browse the local website.

Now you have no search engine in China? I am sorry that Google left China and I hope that in the future the company will return to your country.

Im moving to China soon and I must say, after reading all of these posts; that I'm a little concerned on how I'll keep in touch.
I mainly use Twitter and Facebook.. And my number 1 searcher is Google. I thought, since I was going to be new in the country; it would have been nice to have Google China too.
good luck
Business is business.
Youtube,Facebook,Twitter,Flurk....,all websites for communications to the outside world are blocked, and now Google is driven away. What is the government thinking about? They wanna lock China in a cage like 100 years ago? They promised "we shall insist our Reform and Opening policy",but where is the so-called opening?Come on,this is the 21st century,we want freedom,my dear government!
This is another classic example of a large corporation from the western world which never really did its homework prior to doing business in China. Just because you are successful in the U.S., does not mean that you can conquer China too.
