Yes, facebook has changed ip to 69.63.178.11 / 12. IP end with 140 seems removed.
It's supposed to work.

However, came with another problem. Not all the time could access through, even though we could get respond from PING function.

A friend of mine suggested that i clear histories and cookies whenever the problem exist. Sound troublesome, should work.

and then you can do things like send mail via facebook, check profiles, leave comments. only thing you can't do is accept friend requests and stuff.

you can still poke people too

and hidefap works better than most proxies especially for youtube.

and sometimes it doesn't work because china blocks it but HIDEFAP proxies work around the system once its blocked by going through another countries servers. so if it stops working wait 5 mintues and then go back on again.

and myspace isn't blocked...altho i dont know how long that'll last.

it's october 4th and they said they'd unblock it on the 1st. i had high hopes too, this sucks.

When the block first happened I had been using a proxy server to access facebook... but that no longer works and I can't download another as most proxy websites are also banned!... I found that an IP address from Beijing was accessing my gmail account... hope I'm just being paranoid but I have heard they scan emails too... which is an awful invasion of privacy...

As for letters and postcards... I've also had trouble with that service... with postcards going missing for months before arriving at their destination... or just staying missing... and packages being posted to me but disappearing along the way... so unfortunately even that's not a safe way to keep in touch... also it helps having facebook as you can let someone know you're ok or update them on things within a few minutes... at least I can still email people... even if my account has been compromised... the worst thing I've said is about the censorship!...

It's not really about whether you are heavily reliant on the internet or whether they block facebook or proxy servers... its about a government censoring the information its citizens/residents/visitors can access... and that is the problem... if the government were truly just and good and integral then there wouldn't be a problem in allowing people to express their opinion and the bulk of the issues they censor probably wouldn't occur in the first place... I know we'd be hard pressed to find any government integral and just... but the point is the problems lies with the government and its treatment and representation of the citizens and not with the communication aveneues of those people... an important fact is missing in China- the government work for the people... I think its really sad to hear people here say- there's nothing we can do about it... and I think its awful to hear them say' we are not meant to talk about these things.. when they are clearly upset with their government...

... as for facebook... I didn't buy the unblocked after the 1st thing... and have little hope for it being unblocked... maybe in another week when the National Holiday is over... or maybe never at all... either way the issue should not go away with facebook being unblocked... the focus and debate should remain on the fact that the Chinese government censors information and prevents Chinese people from freely expressing their views and discontent with their own government...

(China has its good and bad points as a country... like most others... and some cultural differences that get the better of me at times... mostly when in queing!... but still its worth the experience to be here and learn about an entirely different country and culture...)

Well. I live in China since 10 years and facebook was a way for me to be intouch with my family and friends in my country. They did a very bad thing blocking facebook since most of people use facebook for my same purpose.. Its a website that connects you with your loved ones and I don't see any danger in terms of censorship and all, IT MAKES NO SENSE. And also I would like to add, if there's a need to block Youtube then why not blocking also Yoku and Baidu video search? it's basically the same thing. I had a Youtube channel with over 200 subscribers and I enjoyed making Vlogs. Is this how China intends to promote itself right next to the 2010 World Expo? I mean, you want to show the whole world how developed you are and still you block people from using the internet? GROW UP CCP! People are not stupid and they notice it.

It's been forever and the only way I am able to access facebook is going to hongkong, which doesn't happen all the time, probably only every 3 months since I have to leave the border. Anywho, I am still hopng China would unblock facebook soon, I mean why? It's the only connection I have with my friends which are half way across the world! Okay there are several posts above that refer to a site that allows you to access facebook and use most functionality, this is true but it will not work well with Internet Explorer, so here is a clue \FIREFOX\ (read the previous posts above).

If you are simple and can not read or work out the posts above or my last paragraph then I suggest you look at paying a fee from a site that will allow you to surf any site from within China.

Thirdly if you intend to come to China and want to use fb, twitter or youtube then I recommend you look into VPN, this is how most people are doing it from China now!

there is 2 way to access blocked content at china and get the freedom of internet search...

1. buy your private cable line from china intercom, it cost around 1 ~2mil RMB per annual....then all you allow to access any website...

2. find someone that is generous enough to share it with you. Every city there is people own 1 or 2 cable line. At my city got 3 ppl own their own cable line.

the internet speed will also max up
