Update on July 22 ( July 21 in the U.S ):
Here's my personal experience and tips, hope this could make sense for your travel in Beijing:
- The subway security check
My experience: The line 10 subway in Beijing is now also asking people to take security checks.
Tip: Please don't bring strange "liquid" with you, or you will be asked to take a taste ( what if that's your urine for a health check? ) - The university security check
My experience: The UIBE (University of International Business and Economics) is asking people who enters its campus for related "credentials".
Tip: Please find a student who studies in the specified university you wanna enter. Or you may have to fill a very complicated form :)
Though we all know that "security checks" are only a palliative (measure) in the fight against terrorism, we have to face something sometimes, here is the picture:
(I am sorry that the picture is removed for unknown reasons)
Anyway, I don't care about the Games itself much, nor do I care about the politics, I just how that everyone can be safe and undisturbed.

Wow...
So I was just checked twice in the subway the day before yesterday :)
Anyway, I think it's reasonable the check itself. Hope there would never be anything bad happen this year ~
Yeah, it's reasonable and necessary. But some voice of distaste has already come up...
Some criticized the government for wasting money and disturbing their daily life.
And as expected, they were put a label as instigators of social instability...
Being rational and reasonable today is just so so so hard...囧
Alas, I really have some different opinion on such kind of Security Check to local people. Of course I agree that our country should take some measures on security for the great Olympic Games. but not so stupid way! That would cause new problems too..
Why could not work out a better and more efficient way?
Anyway, I am used to hear such news, and have no way.....:(
That's got to be a long, long line. What is the purpose of the check? Are these people trying to get into a building or an event? Or is this a preemptive security check for the Beijing Olympics—I mean, are they queuing to receive a security pass or something of the kind?
The purpose of the check is the same as the purpose of not letting you bring orange juice on an airplane: to fool people into thinking they're being kept safe from harm. Sadly, no country has a monopoly on this kind of foolishness these days.
Yes, everyone is doing so because, maybe... it's the only way to make you feel safe.
It's not a good idea for getting safety-check in subway in the morning, and it waste time for office worker.
Maybe the government should work out the problem of security in a better way.
