Is this my blogging day?

I planned to attend a Microsoft free training today, just for the *free lunch*. But a friend in Microsoft told us that they received too many training applications, and didn't think that I should attend it. So, I just got another day without any schedule. I knew that I should prepare for my TOEFL test this weekend, but i don't know since when I just do not want to do any preparation for tests. If I'm really skillful on the tested subject, I will manage to get through. Otherwise, I don't want a score that doesn't reflect my true level.

Anyway, I started writing blog posts after woke up. I logged my Tencent paper test yesterday, and wrote an argument on Linq to Sql, then marked down my thoughts on solid feed subscribers, and finally expressed my hatred of filling out online job application forms a little. I have never experienced writing so many blog posts in one day. Maybe that would be the my life style if I become a professional technology author. In fact, I really think that the position of a pro tech author somehow attracts me. The advantage of being a free lancer is freedom, with plenty of flexibility in scheduling. The disadvantage is that you have to arrange everything for yourself, because there's no boss issuing tasks to you.

I have no idea whether I'll be a pro tech author. I don't even know what kind of job or study I will have next year. There are too many possibilities.

Tell me what you read, and I will tell you what you are.

This is a blog written by Chinese and writing in English, and we have no ideas about who is going to read our posts. So the bottom line is that we should find out who is our audience.

So far, most of our audience are from mainland China, and speaking Chinese as their everyday language, according to Google Analytics' data. This is one audience group we might pick, then we have to figure out what's point of writing English blog posts for Chinese readers. Here are some possible answers:

  • Typing English is a whole lot faster than typing Chinese, and that can save our time.
  • Just for practicing English.
  • For getting to know Chinese who might have the same higher value(at least have the same higher English skill).

What is the other possible audience group? They might be people who know little about but are interested in Chinese language and culture. And what are the benefits for targeting these audience? They might be:

  • Getting to know foreigners, which means people who have different culture background with us.
  • Let people who are interested in Chinese culture get to know Chinese easier and better.

So, tell me why do you think that this blog is worth writing or worth reading? Which audience group do you think that we should target first?

Dare to know your outside world

Several days ago, a friend of mine (in China) changed his MSN status to this line:

??????????? ??, ??????????. ???, ?????????. ??, ?????, ??????????????????.

It can be translated as:

Our instructor asked as about our dreams, and I said: My dream is to be a citizen. "It's so easy," he replied. "Well, " I added, "my dreams is, to be a citizen who can browser the Internet freely (free as in freedom)"

You might be curious: why the freedom of accessing information is so critical? To me, it can be explained in twofold.

Human beings, as every living things in the world, have to get feedback from our environment anytime to adjust to it. It's for sure that insufficient knowledge to the surroundings will impair our justifications. Being ignorant to the outside world will eventually meet a brick wall in front. Moreover, insufficient information would be misleading too. I have a friend who helps high school students go abroad every year. He told me that, rather than lacking of money or ambition for a child to study abroad, the biggest problem why so few students can get the opportunity to study abroad came from the ignorance of the policy and the procedure of higher education systems abroad. Therefore, if you have such a dream, please try to get necessary information and don't let the environment confine you. Actually your environment will never be a restriction if you can get outside information constantly and thereby decreases the entropy of the environment.

This brings another question: what kind of information you need to get to achieve your goal? My answer is : be an independent thinker and get the key yourself. I can understand that one in the early 20s is eager to explore the unknown world and trying to syndicate all the useful information for him/herself. To my experience, two frequent questions used by them are "which book should I read" and "where can I find that information". My suggestion for them is almost, if not always, the same: "think about it twice, and you will get the answer". In my opinion (maybe sort of paranoid), if you haven't known what kind of information you should take to help make decision, you are not prepared for success. There might be someone in the world that can answer the question about "should I do..." or "how can I do.." for you perfectly, but you have to be the one that have a full sense of the outside world with respect to your own situation. In U.S., people usually say: "Do some homework first", which means you have to gather some necessary information yourself. Be brave, nobody can help you in figuring out what kind of information you need, even they can help you in making decision in when you are in labyrinth. So don't panic, dare to know the outside world, even it's painful.

Free accessing to information is important for self-development. Sadly, in China, mainland, this pre-requisite is not true. For some reason, some useful websites such as Wikipedia are not accessible. Moreover, the network infrastructure is not so developed. Nevertheless, those shortages have now been partly resolved via some not-so-hard techniques. Thus, I encourage my readers to explore the wonderful unknown world via your browser and search engines. Your future is on your hand.

Know yourself Deeply First!

When I was young, I really believed that it was me who knew me best. However, after more than half century, I am getting to know that I didn't know myself deeply. What I had known clearly was mostly what I wanted.

The support for this point is, but not limited, as follows:

  • My blood type even drove me to act beyond my self-consciousness. After comparing with many same natured people, I got to know that we had the same blood type, based on which our tempers or behaviors are similar.
  • My nature coming mainly from my parents could be the potential power which leaded or adjusted my mood without my self-consciousness. Several years ago I got to understand that the hardest thing to me was not changing the world but to change or control myself! And what I am mostly doing now is also to go on managing myself!
  • Aggregated from the above two points and mixed with what I had learnt and acquired along with my growing, came my idea, my desire and my action. During this course, the living circumstance before adult played an important role in my life. The branded influence could almost accompany my whole life.
  • .................

I don't want to say wordily here since I know smart people can understand me fully. I merely show this mind and share with people who really want self-consciousness and self-control in their life.

it's not an ad,it's my favourite

I must declare first:this post is not an ad . It's just something that i like to share with everyone.

In my hometown Chongqing , there's a Chinese food chain called CSC(Country Style Chicken).

As everybody knows , Chinese food is hard to be made like hamburgers or chips which KFC?Mcdonalds got. With those easy-making food , Mcdonalds can provide food quickly and keep the same taste.

But u just can't make Chinese food , u must cook it. It always needs a long time and some techs. No one can make the whole process under well control. So this may be why there isn't many Chinese fast food chain over our country.

But CSC did. I have been eating there for 6 years. They're getting faster and faster. For now,if u order some food, mostly in 30 seconds u'll get what u want.Is that amazing?

But u may ask why i'm introducing CSC today. The answer is CSC is making it's expansion to Beijing,Shanghai,Chengdu,Guiyang. So i think maybe it's a good chance and right time to share this amazing food chain with all of u guys , lol!

P.S.: Today I find CSC has established

Tow Scenes I can never forget!

1, That night in middle August, 1966 when I decided to leave home to catch other classmates and step on the way so-called "Revolutionary Great Chuanlian"(Chuanlian is Pinyin, means to free travel all over China to spread flame during "Wenge"), my mother handed me a wool jumper with a deep sigh: "Go ahead towards your way..... " I could see the dark clouds on her face, but didn't know the real situation my father was facing then. I only knew that I was not a "Red Guard" yet up to that time since my father who was being interrogated by those "Revolutionary sodilders".... I was so excited by the feelings of touring all over the strange places I wanted whithout any adult as company, that I even didn't say "goodbye" to my father before left. Since then, I could never see my dearest father again!

2, One and half months later when I managed to come back home from so called "Great Chuanlian", I bumped into one by one strange glance from the old faces when I ented that Military Courtyard where we had lived for 12 years. People tried to leave me as I mere a lucifer. The on duty guard soldier standing at the gate even hesitated to reject me in. However, he ceased when he met my pique. I knew the reason that my father died one week ago due to heavy persecuting by so-called "Red Insurrectionist" in Army and hereafter, we his children was put into the hell from the heaven! I raised my head with a disparaging smile and then went into the big military courtyard towards my home and my mother......

What's in a name?

I've got to be honest, I tend to always cringe a little when I see Chinese people who have obviously 'westernised' their first names. In fact, there are quite a few fellow ifgogo authors that go by anglosised "English" names.

Oddly, while this name-changing phenomenon is quite common among Chinese but doesn't seem to be as common among other ethnic groups (as a means of comparison, the Japanese in particular come to mind).

I've always gone with my given name of Lun Zhang (or Zhang Lun, if you want to be pedantic...) and have never seen any logical reason why I should change it. My parents chose my name when I was born. It is a part of my identity and crucially for me, a connection to my Chinese heritage.

Yes, the pronounciation of my name does occassionally get mangled by people from a non-Chinese speaking background (i.e. the majority of my friends). Yes, it isn't common and quickly sets me apart (which I would view as a positive thing). But the fact of the matter is, I've never ever encountered a time where my Chinese name has proven to be a hindrance. Or conversely, I've never been in a situation where I've felt it necessary to have an 'English' name.

My question is this: why do you feel it necessary to change your name and not just use the pinyin equivalent of your actual Chinese name?

The Author Experience of ifgogo.com

As the ifgogo.com finally went online, I got lots of request for being an author. Though we declared some instructions. I really want to ask you all one more question: What is the most important reason that makes you write a mail to me?

Yes, I know and I am very sure that most of you want to communicate with different funny people from all over the world, and improve the English writing skills. But any extra besides that?

If I were asked such a question, my answer would be "The Author Experience (AE) ".

An author of a blog is one who post interesting stories or personal thoughts, and share them in front of the public. The AE contains not only the feeling of touching the world, but also the feeling of being responded from the world.

But that is just some very basic features. At ifgogo.com, an author gets more than you can imagine. We have many funny features, especially an enhancement for the comment related action. For instance, you can directly reply to a comment in which you are interested. Then you can subscribe the coming comments to your email, thus you won't miss any comment after your leaving on your interested topics. You can also check out the "Top-10 Commentators" of this week, to see who is getting hot.

It's so exiting to contribute for you all! Moreover, please believe me that I will put more and more funny features to this site. I am sure some of the ideas will make sense for you :)
