China is now going to the world.....

I read here carefully on aw's blog "Being a Chinese, something I want to say" and relevant comments. I also recalled many things I experienced since 1950s in last century. I don't want to talk too much on Tibet issue, since many people have got to know some situation there from whatever points of view. I just want to say my idea as follows:

1, Today's China is no longer a sealed country where we generation could only know news from the official propaganda, and got some misunderstanding onto the other country in the world. It is very good now that Chinese people can know the world by their own efforts and then make the private comparing with China and other country. It is just a proof that there could be some foreigners coming to ifgogo to read and comment. But this opening situation has just lasted 30 years. Both Chinese people and the people in other countries need time to know each other well. So, we should be patient.

2, Other countries from the world now can also get more opportunities to come to China to see a real China. So, they say more and more comments on this or that. But I don't think all the western reporters could have stayed in China for quite a long time or have met quite a more local people and talk with them, so that their news might be here or there some misunderstanding on a real and whole China. Based on this assumed idea, I think that we Chinese also need to be patient. However, we never allow those malicious gossip as well as even some attack with evil intention!!

3, It is always true that there is some gap between the people and its government, no matter how badly the government wants to be on behalf of its people or how badly the people trust its government. Why so? It is due to the different position where their points of view come from. I was a common worker when I was 20 and just after 2 years' living in countryside as a "educated youth". Then in 20 years, I became a middle-level leader in the provincial government. I had gone through from root to quite higher lever of the leadership, but I resigned position and quit the rank and turn to a root company again. Why? I got to know there were many things I could not change and could not even do. I'd better to choose a lower but solid job and contribute my love and energy to my motherland. In the last 15 years, I have done a lot of concrete work and feel happy everyday. So, I quite agree with aw that we should firstly do our current job well and devote to the construction of the New China.

4, Patriotism is a good thing, but need to be understood and showed properly. We Chinese should know that China is one of the largest countries of the world with its great population, but it is still being developed and its economical support doesn't match the role it wants playing. So, China also needs time to boom its economy so that to earn more rights on the world matters. I had a long call with my son who went to Canberra from Sydney to join the torch relay in Australia. He was excited at the site with more than 10000 Chinese people there, holding the National Flag, singing the National Anthem. He said just at that moment he could realize why the oversea Chinese looked so crazy at CCTV on the CNY Evening Party. You could not know such patriotic feelings unless you were out of China! Son also told me there was really some people holding Tibet flags and protesting there, but son and other Chinese just simply ignored them and focused on protecting the torch. Son said: "They were minority only, if we paid no attention to them, how could their protest work? We Chinese should be rational patriots. Reality is reality after all! Any Westerner who goes to see the current real Tibet and compare it with the old one, he can get his right answer!" I agree with my son totally!

Talk something about a bastard

Gregory House

There is one who is called House. He escapes clinic hours, refuses to put on doctor uniform, insults people who are hypocritical or stupid, and even play dangerous games on patients. He's also been childish ---- dosed Wilson, refused to give up his parking slot to a disabled, and always causes Cuddy a lot of troubles.

House is a a manipulative bastard, yet an honorable bustard he remains. Despite all his nasty deeds and characters, he is the only one who dares to defy rules, pursue the truth, and always do what he regard is right. House has a favorite pet phrase ---- "Everybody lies." In the name of this sentence he may try to find out the truth by any means, even it can hurt others. That's why he got shot at the end of Season 2.

House is an idealized character, a man who's willing to confront conventions, rules, and hypocrisy. He's lucky to get good friends who can tolerate his drawbacks. His boss, Cuddy, director of Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, also the one who always plays against House. Wilson, famous oncologist and House's close friend. Foreman, Cameron and Chase, House's fellows. Cuddy may be the only one who can handle House, but she is also the only one who's willing to hire House and protect him. Wilson is the one who cares House's life. Foreman, Cameron and Chase can help triggering House's inspiration. All of them are indispensible for House's surviving in this banal and hypocritical society.

House has a gift of using mordant metaphor, which turns watching 《House》 into a process of learning the art of sarcasm. Yet these are the essential tools for House's achieving his goals. Unlike ordinary doctor's gentle suggestion. He always menaces patients by saying "You'd better... or you die." Crude, but truely effective. Here are some pieces:

Dan’s Mother: How can you just sit there?my son is going to die
House: If I eat standing up, I spill.

Foreman: Isn’t treating patients why we became doctors?
House: No, treating illnesses is why we became doctors. Treating patients is what makes most doctors miserable.

Wilson: I’m still amazed you’re in the same room as a patient.
House: People don’t bother me until they get teeth.

Wilson: You will lie, cheat and steal to get what you want, but you’re incapable of kissing a little ass?
House: Well, we all have our limitations.

(The lady's pregnant...)
House: Lift up your arms. You have a parasite.
Jill: Like a tapeworm or something?
House: Lie back and lift up your sweater. You can put your arms down.
Jill: Can you do anything about it?
House: Only for about a month or so. After that it becomes illegal to remove, except in a couple of states.
Jill: Illegal?
House: Don’t worry. Many women learn to embrace this parasite. They name it, dress it up in tiny clothes, arrange playdates with other parasites...
Jill: Playdates…
House: (showing her sonogram) It has your eyes.

Every time I watch 《House》, I can't help thinking about the philosophy and impact 《House》 has given me. It's true we can't and we will never be House. But guys, don't we need some changes?

Chicken or Beef?

lunch

On a plane crossing the Pacific, you will need to choose between chicken and beef for once or twice. That's what you will have as the "main dish" for your dinner, and all other "dishes" will be the same for every passenger.

If you do want such a life as sleeping after eating and eating after sleeping, long distant flight might be your #1 choice. A flight crossing the Pacific might cost you 8 to 10 hours. In return, food will be served every other hour. That might be breakfast, dinner, of some kind of snack. It depends on the local time of departure city and arrival city.

During my two trips between Tokyo and Seattle, I got 6 meals in total: 3 dinners, 2 snacks, and 1 breakfast. Dinners in such trips are much better than those in domestic flights. I had salmon sashimi on my way to Seattle, and fresh shrimps on my way back. Seafood is served with a piece of lemon, for people who like lemon juice on sashimi, and salad is served with salad cream.

If you decided to "enjoy" such a lengthy flight, remember to choose your seat wisely. Window seats might provide you with wonderful view. However, aisle seats might give you more convenience. Thus, window seats are good for short flights during the daytime, and aisle seats should be taken early for long trips.

the sense of value is the key to the Torch thing

I'm busy with the Intel contest, so i most forgot about ifgogo until Aw's post reminded me that there's a place for us to spread our thinking worldwide.

Martin Luther King left a dream for U.S. and for the world. Being the biggest east nationality , what did we leave behind? Or what will we leave behind?

Reports of Torch Relay Attacking from west media made me think a lot. Most of them came with compassion to Free Tibet Campaign(shorted as FTC).But to me who live in China and feel the fear that the campaign brought to me , i can't agree with their idea on the campaign.

Some Chinese can't understand why western people would support FTC.My idea is that we have different sense of value. They care about democracy and freedom while we care about stability of society.

From this we can know that many western people are truly blaming the situation of freedom in China. Supporting the FTC is just to show their attitude. They're not attacking China.Actually they're attacking an imagery enemy who hates democracy and freedom. Is that our country? No.So they're attacking nothing. Then why would you be so angry my friends.^.^

How to solve the 'sense of value' problem? Enhancing communication is the first step.We must open our mind and welcome western people to come to our land.Let them see what happens on this great land.We can't keep fighting against everything and everyone,it's conceited and not a wise choice.

But now,in China people like me can't spread our voice.Since the actions of abroad student did, the nationalist in China can't be stopped.I'm not blaming them, they did that for good willing. Now,nationalist controls the power. They don't care about truth;they don't like to think. What they only care about is honor、honor、honor.

The impression of a nation can't be made by words or campaigns. We need practical and real action.

To build a fair platform for communication is the way to solve this problem.Or else there will be another Torch-like thing in future.I can't image a life with campaigns after campaigns.

Being a Chinese, something I want to say

Well, it's being a long time no post @ ifgogo. Life is hard and I was busy. I've being busy moving from west Beijing to east Beijing. However, I think it's time to post something here though I'm really not that sure I know everything well (Not a single man dares to say that he knows everything about the Tibet, Torch Relay Attacking, Duke counter-protest issues all). As "Chinese in English" for this website, for this blog, it's just been too silent recently. As everyone knows that we China are going to host the Olympic Games this year, so being a Chinese, especially being a Chinese in Beijing, it's really a special year for me, for every Chinese. It's proud to host the great movement, to make the world running for a same good goal (via):

the goal of the Olympic Movement is to contribute to building a peaceful and better world by educating youth through sport practiced without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.

But it seems that people are so often to be out of control (Yes, something really hurts, I know). Here are something I wanna say when I received tons of comments at my personal blog:

  1. Most people, Chinese, American, French, whatever.. the ordinary ones, are not interested in political details. They just want to lead a normal and happy life. So it's really a bad idea to say that "all the French people are evil" etc.
  2. Due to some complicated reasons, we've met kinds of trouble. The Attacks to the Olympic Torch Relay in Paris really disobeyed the common goal of the majority. It's not a good idea to mix sports and politics. If you are not a politician then you need to figure out enough truth before attacking the others or spamming everywhere on Internet. I have to admit that there are some Chinese people doing so in this post from my personal blog. I really feel sorry to see that all.
  3. To boycott the western media / western companies is NOT a shortcut(in Chinese) for the Chinese people to be richer, NOR a shortcut for the China being stronger. As I will say later, to make our motherland be stronger and our people more richer, we've got a lot of things to do.
  4. For good or bad, whatever... Tibet belongs to China. If you've never been there, never been talked to the people who lived there, how do you know what the people are thinking about? If possible, upload a video to Youtube. The more videos are uploaded, the clearer the truth is.
  5. To love our motherland is a good character, but it's not just an action of updating our MSN signatures. It's about loving your job, loving your family, loving the environment, and being working hard everyday, being helpful to others. That's easier said than done. The environment issues are getting more and more serious, the global warming, the overpopulation, the extinct species...if we are not going to live together, we'll then all die alone.

PS: I met a friend from German on MSN, just by accident. We chatted a lot and he asked me about my height. I told him that I am 179cm, then he said "that's really tall, even taller than me(178)". He told me that when he came to Shanghai, China, he found most Chinese people are shorter than guys from his country. So, what can I say? As a Chinese, what will you do? To tell(cheat) him that people in Shanghai is the shortest from China? To blame his discrimination and "f*ck" his family? Or to boycott this contact forever and even stopped talking to any German guys? Well, just stop looking for shortcuts to be taller/stronger, just stop deceiving yourself. All we need to do is to educate our next generation to be working hard, doing regular exercise, protecting the environment and paying enough attention to the health issues.

PS2: Some job must be done by the government and politicians. The government is responsible for things like handling issues with other countries, education, protecting the people, etc. Those jobs are really important, but being a normal people, you can not play a government official. If you wanna help, just join them first.

Please read this post carefully before posting a comment, thanks.

My iPhone Got Pwned

I unlocked my iPhone two months ago. You can read my post here. That wasted one of my New Year's night. Now I've pwned it, so it would be easier to modify my iPhone in the future.

But wait... What does the word "pwn" mean? As wikipedia says:

The word "pwn" may have arisen and spread as a common typo of the word "own," since the 'p' and 'o' keys are adjacent on a standard English keyboard. Alternatively, the word pwnage may have been created as a portmanteau of the words "pure" and "ownage," "perfect" and "ownage," or "powerful" and "ownage." Similarly, "pwn" may have derived from "powerfully owned," such as "you just got powerfully owned!" (shortened to "you just got pwned!").

After I pwned my iPhone, it's totally under my control. I can change my bootloaded, baseband, and firmware without any digital signature check. For example, before I pwn it, I have to use the official firmware package to restore my firmware and then crack it by software running on it. Now I can build my own firmware package on my Mac, and then use iTunes to restore it to my iPhone. As the digital signature check has been disabled, my iPhone will accept this modified firmware package, and restore the firmware with all the cracked features built-in.

After doing this, I started to think about one question: When shall we get our Internet pwned. You know, we don't own it now, and it's not under our total control. It's just a technical problem, if it can be overcomed by pure technical approach.
