Helicopters over Beijing

I heard very big noise when I was sleeping this morning. I am a little scared for the noise is really too big, just like some "big stuff" floating right above me. Then a roommate told me that they are helicopters.

People at SMTH (A very famous BBS in China, especially among people lived in Beijing) are also talking about this issue. They said it could make people feel more safe – that they are protected even from possible air attack?

However, I really hope there would be no terrorists and the Game would be successfully held. As the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games coming sooner and sooner, it's really a crisis time for everyone in Beijing.

FYI: Today is August 1st, also known as the 81th Army Day of China.

Saying Something on Iraq back to the Games

I am very happy to hear that the ban on Iraq competing in the Beijing Olympics has been over-turned finally!

I kept an eye on how it went ahead for days since I heard of the Ban. I firstly felt sad with the Iraqi athletes who took years for the great Games but then they would lose the treasurable opportunity. Some of them even cried heavily for it, and I seemed as if I could see the tears.

Then I was puzzled with this principle relating politics. It is originally to protect the Olympic Spirit but people's feelings was hurt by it somehow. At least I felt very sorry to the Iraqi people and its athletes who was just recovering from the disaster of the War.. In another word, since the Olympic Games is a game for all countries in the world as well as all the people in the world, why should it miss one country as well as its athletes? So, I think such politics oriented principle would be a dilemma indeed when it is being carried out.

Anyway, like the news paper said, this final agreement is the victory of all! My only wish now is to give the other 5 Iraqi athletes more chances to get back their qualification for attending the Games.

Am I right?

China blocks all electronic devices delivery for Olympics 2008

Yesterday I went to a post office to send a video-camera to my friend with EMS.But  the employee there said that I can't send a video-camera since it's being blocked while Beijing Olympics goes on.

So i turned to some other express service provider.Unfortunately all of them told me that i can't send out a video-camera during Beijing Olympics.

And finally a provider which name:Shentong Express confirmed my suspects. They said that all electronic devices delivery are blocked during Beijing Olympics.

I also bought a PSP on Chinese C2C website 'Taobao'.Today the seller called me to tell me that he couldn't deliver my PSP to me.Because the express service provider said it's being blocked.

oh what a pity!It seems like you can't deliver any electronic devices in China during Olympics.it makes me feel angry about the Game.

Love knows no limits :-)

This is a real, touching story.  The video comes from youtube and has been viewed for nealy six million times.  The lion, named Christian, was adopted by two young men living in Britain and then released back to the reserve area in Kenya. This video documented their reunification, also their final goodbye after several years in 1974.

On YouTube, there's more information:

"Many thanks to The Sunday Times (27-07-08) & TimesOnline

for covering the story and for linking to my video.

To see the whole amazing story, buy the full dvd at http://www.bornfree.org.uk/shop/acata... and help The Born Free Foundation save more wildlife.

There's also more info at Wikipedia:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christia...

Christian left the Kora Reserve in 1973. He made his new territory along the Tana river, but when the Wakamba herdsmen kept bringing their livestock to his hunting ground, he moved on. George Adamson said in his autobiography, "I used to count the days on which we hadn't seen Christian, but when they reached 97, I gave up recording them in my diary." Because a lion can live from 12 to 15 years in the wild, Adamson believed that Christian ended his days in the Meru National Reserve only a few miles up river.

As for the two guys, the Born Free Foundation tells me that Anthony "Ace" Bourke (referred to as Ace "Berg" on YouTube) lives in Australia as a lecturer and expert in the area of Aboriginal Art, and John Rendall lives in the UK and is a Trustee of the George Adamson Wildlife Preservation Trust.

A Hard Nut to Crack

Recently, many computer users have updated their Windows from SP2 to SP3, because the latter claims to perform better than the former. As some guys have reported, SP3 can run faster when the system begins to boot, when it visits the Internet or when files are transferred. Moreover, the new version seems to be much more concerned about the security of our computers, for it boasts of several advanced traits like the Network Access Protection technique, which is said to be capable of preventing those unsafe software or dreadful viruses from intruding into our PCs. Out of curiosity, I abandoned my old system and experienced the new service pack with no hesitation.

At the very beginning, it appeared that this brand-new system could operate smoothly, making me quite satisfied. However, the moment I wanted to install the IIS environment for testing programs, a problem arose suddenly: the IIS installation stopped halfway and refused to move forward. I waited for a long time, still nothing changed. Initially, I thought perhaps the problem stemmed from my own operational mistakes. Thus, I intended to disable what had been done and reinstall the environment. To my great surprise, it failed to react to my orders, either. Though a bit upset, I did not give up; rather, I formatted the system and made another attempt. God, the same trouble came back and disappointed me again. Then I turned to websites for solutions, but no definite answers were available. Finally, all my hopes were dashed to pieces, and with patience gone, I decided to reuse SP2, leaving the hard nut alone.

To some people, I may  not  be the one who should remain clam and courageous in the face of difficulties or challenges. Yet throughout life, I would choose to go away from things that I could not handle, so that the trouble might be simple.

The real "bird nest" from China! (lol)

UPDATE: Another funny one on how they built this great stuff (though not the same, haha):

As we know that the Bird Nest (Beijing National Stadium) is a must-visit place in Beijing for the great Olympic Games 2008, there are also some funny pictures of it. Here I find one of them in Xiaonei.com:

I guess it's made by some Chinese farmers. The farmers in China are really of great creativity :)

FYI, more about the real Bird Nest Stadium (via Wikipedia)

The stadium can seat as many as 91,000 spectators during the Olympics. The capacity will then be reduced to 80,000 after the Games. It has replaced the original intended venue of the Guangdong Olympic Stadium.[5] The stadium is 330 metres long by 220 metres wide, and is 69.2 metres tall. The stadium uses 258,000 square metres of space and has a usable area of 204,000 square metres. It was built with 36 km of unwrapped steel, with a combined weight of 45,000 tonnes.[5] The stadium will cost up to 3.5 billion yuan (≈423 million USD).[5]

To ensure the security of Olympics, people in beijing are getting safety-check

Update on July 22 ( July 21 in the U.S ):

Here's my personal experience and tips, hope this could make sense for your travel in Beijing:

  1. The subway security check
My experience: The line 10 subway in Beijing is now also asking people to take security checks.
Tip: Please don't bring strange "liquid" with you, or you will be asked to take a taste ( what if that's your urine for a health check? )
  2. The university security check
My experience: The UIBE (University of International Business and Economics) is asking people who enters its campus for related "credentials".
Tip: Please find a student who studies in the specified university you wanna enter. Or you may have to fill a very complicated form :)

Though we all know that "security checks" are only a palliative (measure) in the fight against terrorism, we have to face something sometimes, here is the picture:

(I am sorry that the picture is removed for unknown reasons)

Anyway, I don't care about the Games itself much, nor do I care about the politics, I just how that everyone can be safe and undisturbed.
