Sunshine, storm, hail and ... sunshine

7:05 p.m Edmonton,
I entered my lab. The sky was clear, the sun was bright. The light was too strong and I had to drop down blinders to block it out.

7:15 p.m Edmonton,
It's getting dark outside. I rolled up blinders. Oh my god~, just 10 minutes, the sun had been totally covered by clouds. A huge strom was attacking the city: lighting splited the sky, thunder sounds went through my thick glass window, and rains beated the whole building. But where did so many clouds come from? Amazing!

7:20 p.m Edmonton,
Seems my imagination still could not follow the weather here. Only after 5 minutes, the rain storm changed to the hail! Like thousnads of bullets, they dived from sky to the earth. Terrible.

7:35 p.m Edmonton,
What?? Sunshine?? Again? I was really really shocked to see the sunlight again and, the sky was totally clear. Everything was in peace. Like nothing happened before. How could that be! The whole process may even not be longger than half an hour.

This happened a few days ago. Now I am not so surprise about weather like this, because it happens a few times after that. Some friends told me they usually get this kind of stuff in summer.

I still remember that when I was in high school, my teacher told me people in English speaking country uauslly talked about weather for polite, but now I guess this reason may need to be updated. People talk about weather because it does change too fast, at least, in the summer of Edmonton.

The photoshopped Panda pictures hot in China (via Douban.com)

(FYI: All the pictures are found in Douban.com, which is a very famous Chinese SNS website)

Eva and Lisa both post some nice photos of Pandas in China. And today I find some even more "photoshopped" photos:

This is a "panda shaoxiang" version. Shaoxiang, aka "烧香" in Chinese, means go to the temple for burning incense and offering up a sacrifice. The Shaoxiang Panda is a very famous computer virus (worm like) in China during 2007. Once you get infected, all the icons of your files will be a picture like this one:

A Kaspersky user must watch 6-sec video from China (comedy)

This is really an awesome funny clip I found at 56.com the first day it comes to live (due to a long period of censorship for weeks). The boy in this clip vividly imitates the terrible Kaspersky sound and his face looks so funny at the end.

It lasts only 6 seconds but really make me lmao, haha:)

Tip: If you never use the "Kaspersky", take care of your ears!

Some Further Photos of Panda

So nice pandas!

However, do you know how were they during the Sichuan Earthquake?

Here are some photos as an addition to Eva.

Adorable pandas(multiple pictures kill your modem)

Source: Maopu Forum

Nowadays panda has become more and more popular as a national treasure of China around the globe. Even though they dig their nostril in front of you, you won't think it's disgusting. (oh, what a lovely baby).

Have you guys watched "kungfu panda"? It's an awesome movie. You can tell from the movie the director loves the Chinese culture. He respects Chinese culture and a lot of scenes are done in watercolor and ink wash. I don't know why Zhao Bandi boycott "kungfu panda" but loves giant panda. He likes to make dissident comments to attract public's attention? Panda doesn't belong to you. It belongs to the world. The only great cartoon moves left us are Monkey King, Prince Nezha's triumph against Dragon King made long time ago. Why can't Chinse film makers make such kind of animated comedy for us? Why can't we watch western movies while Chinse cartoon movies disappoint us?

Anyway, let's take a look at these pandas.

I'm stuck in the tree. Help me out!

Am I scary? I'm mirrored.

Left hook, right hook, hei hei ha hi!

Leave me alone.

I'm a shy girl.

The English theme 'TES' for ifgogo blog is now released publicly

UPDAET on Oct 29:

The new look should be totally different as this blog. And if you have any questions, please mail to awflasher at gmail dot com, with a subject containing "WordPress-TES-Help".

UPDATE on July 25:

I've fixed the bugs and added gravatar support (native interface provided by WordPress2.5)

Well, I've been asked many times to release an English version of The Enhancing Spring (TES) theme. Now it's available for everyone to use. As long as you've got a WordPress installed, you can try it.

The latest(1.50) URL of this theme for downloading is here. And be aware that you'll need a customized BTC plugin to get everything work well. The customized BTC is here.

FYI: The Chinese version has been released for a while from 1.2 to 1.5, however, this is the first time to release this English version (1.4) of TES. (No updated to 1.5)

Some features of this theme:

  • 2-Column auto-fit layout
automatically fits the screen size. For users with IE6+/Firefox1.5+/Safari 3+ and Opera9+ they width would be very proper for reading. (The max-width would not be working in IE6 but I don't wanna make some JavaScript/Expression hacks cause it's not smart to eat even more resources on a computer still running "IE6"
  • Widget support
The widget feature since WordPress 2.3 is available in this theme, and you can also make a completely customized sidebar
  • jQuery involved
is involved to make the interactive stuff more smooth. All the textareas/text inputs appeared in your page will be more interactive: Try to hit this
  • High efficiency, faster speed
They XHTML/CSS and JavaScript files, even some pictures used in our stylesheets are well re-arranged and packaged. It will save your traffic.
  • Better interactive experience
Now the comment system is changed a bit, just take a look at this screenshot:
  • As light as possible
Not only the code are well re-packaged and arranged, the design of this theme is as light as a theme can be. You can easily custom it without much technical skills
  • Enhancement to 1.2
Better sidebar look than 1.2 version, take a look at this screenshot

Something to improve later

  1. Add a "relative posts" to post pages
  2. Make the XHTML more validate
  3. Make the color-scheme more accessible if you wanna make some customized blog
  4. Make the involved jQuery more independent that you may even use a Google hosted one to cut off your traffic
  5. What do you think :) ?

An incredible Love Story in Modern China

I got this story by a letter from my foreign friend and I was shocked when I read it. So, I'd like to dedicate it here to share with you all......

It is a story of a man and an old woman who ran off to live and love each other in peace for over half a century.

The 70-year-old Chinese man who hand-carved over 6,000 stairs upto a mountain for his 80-year-old wife has passed away in the cave which had been the couple's home for the last half century.

Over 50 years ago, Liu Guojiang, a 19 year-old boy feel in love with a 29 year-old widowed mother named Xu Chaoqin....

In a twist worthy of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, friends and relatives criticized the relationship because of the age difference and the fact that Xu already had children.

At that time, it was unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love an older woman... To avoid the market gossip and the scorn of their communities, the couple decided to elope and then lived in a cave of Jiangjin County in southern ChongQing.

At the beginning, life was harsh as they had nothing, no electricity and even no food. They had to eat grass and roots they found in the mountain, and Liu made a kerosene lamp to light their life.

Xu felt she had tied Liu down and repeatedly asked him: 'Are you regretful?' Liu always replied: 'As long as we are industrious, life will be improved.'

Since the second year of living in the mountain, Liu started to hand-carve the steps and then kept doing it for over 50 years, so that his wife could get down the mountain easily.

Half a century later in 2001, a group of adventures happened to find this elderly couple and these over 6, 000 staires with a great surprise when they were exploring the forest. Liu Mengsheng, one of the couple's senven children said: 'My parents loved each other so much that they lived in seclusion for more than 50 years and never been apart for a single day. He hand-carved more than 6,000 steps over the years for my mother's convenience, though she doesn't go down the mountain that much.'

The couple had lived in peace for over 50 years until that day.... Liu, when he was 72, returned from his daily farm work and collapsed. Xu sat and prayed when her husband passsed away in her arms. So, in love with Xu, it was Liu that no one else who was able to release the grip he had on his wife's hand even at the moment he was passing away....

'You promised me you'll take care of me. You'll always be with me until the day I died. Now you left before me, how am I living without you?'

Xu spent days softly repeating this sentence and touching her husband's black coffin with tears rolling down along her cheeks.

In 2006, their story became one of the top 10 love stories in China, collected by the Chinese Woman Weekly. The local government has decided to preserve the love ladders and the place they lived as a museum, so this love story can live forever.

Airplane Saved

The airplane Shanghai Airlines FM9105 met with strong airstream on the air of Tianjin when it was on the way to Beijing. After the plane emergency landed in Tianjin, casualities were sent to hospital immediatelly.
