Some funny pictures from China about the Olympic Games

Here I found some funny pictures about the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. The first is how the waitress are trained to smile. As we can see, everyone one is taking a pencil in her mouth. Thus to make sure that only 8 teeth are shown to the others.

The second one here seems to be a "balance training". Everyone is taking a book on her head and keep it there. As we can see from this picture, even when having a book on head, they are smiling so sweet ;)

Anyway, I don't quite understand how to explain this picture in English properly, maybe you can give me some tips?

Then, the last one (Fuwa girls), just for fun:

PS: One more for fun (Fuwa comic version) ;p

FYI: Most of the pictures are originally from club.163.com, some are from xiaonei.com.

The "World of Warcraft" version of "You are welcome to Beijing" song

A couple of weeks before, Celia at ifgogo translated this great song to English here. However, now I found one even more creative than the original MTV. It just takes advantage from the characters in a world wide famous game: World of Warcraft and then made up the whole song a brand new MTV.

It's really so funny in another style, enjoy it :)

(Though I tried my best, I still have no idea about who created this great video)

Helicopters over Beijing

I heard very big noise when I was sleeping this morning. I am a little scared for the noise is really too big, just like some "big stuff" floating right above me. Then a roommate told me that they are helicopters.

People at SMTH (A very famous BBS in China, especially among people lived in Beijing) are also talking about this issue. They said it could make people feel more safe – that they are protected even from possible air attack?

However, I really hope there would be no terrorists and the Game would be successfully held. As the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games coming sooner and sooner, it's really a crisis time for everyone in Beijing.

FYI: Today is August 1st, also known as the 81th Army Day of China.

China blocks all electronic devices delivery for Olympics 2008

Yesterday I went to a post office to send a video-camera to my friend with EMS.But  the employee there said that I can't send a video-camera since it's being blocked while Beijing Olympics goes on.

So i turned to some other express service provider.Unfortunately all of them told me that i can't send out a video-camera during Beijing Olympics.

And finally a provider which name:Shentong Express confirmed my suspects. They said that all electronic devices delivery are blocked during Beijing Olympics.

I also bought a PSP on Chinese C2C website 'Taobao'.Today the seller called me to tell me that he couldn't deliver my PSP to me.Because the express service provider said it's being blocked.

oh what a pity!It seems like you can't deliver any electronic devices in China during Olympics.it makes me feel angry about the Game.

To ensure the security of Olympics, people in beijing are getting safety-check

Update on July 22 ( July 21 in the U.S ):

Here's my personal experience and tips, hope this could make sense for your travel in Beijing:

  1. The subway security check
My experience: The line 10 subway in Beijing is now also asking people to take security checks.
Tip: Please don't bring strange "liquid" with you, or you will be asked to take a taste ( what if that's your urine for a health check? )
  2. The university security check
My experience: The UIBE (University of International Business and Economics) is asking people who enters its campus for related "credentials".
Tip: Please find a student who studies in the specified university you wanna enter. Or you may have to fill a very complicated form :)

Though we all know that "security checks" are only a palliative (measure) in the fight against terrorism, we have to face something sometimes, here is the picture:

(I am sorry that the picture is removed for unknown reasons)

Anyway, I don't care about the Games itself much, nor do I care about the politics, I just how that everyone can be safe and undisturbed.

The Beijing Olympic Medal Table Widget in English

Announcement: The Widget is now switched to a "Medal Table" Widget.

Having been asked for many times, when Kingler asked me to do so, I have translated this widget into English today. Here is what it looks like:

So if you support China and the Olympic Games, just put this HTML code into your blog or website:

However, if you don't like the "recommended links", you may use this code:

Of course, available in Chinese here.

It's also available in Netvibes, WordPress and Facebook as:

  • (URL) 2008 Beijing Olympics Countdown (Netvibes widget)
  • (Download) 2008 Beijing Olympics Countdown (WordPress plugin)
  • (Application) Countdown to 2008 Beijing Olympic Games (Facebook Application)

However, if you don't like it, just forget it :)

the sense of value is the key to the Torch thing

I'm busy with the Intel contest, so i most forgot about ifgogo until Aw's post reminded me that there's a place for us to spread our thinking worldwide.

Martin Luther King left a dream for U.S. and for the world. Being the biggest east nationality , what did we leave behind? Or what will we leave behind?

Reports of Torch Relay Attacking from west media made me think a lot. Most of them came with compassion to Free Tibet Campaign(shorted as FTC).But to me who live in China and feel the fear that the campaign brought to me , i can't agree with their idea on the campaign.

Some Chinese can't understand why western people would support FTC.My idea is that we have different sense of value. They care about democracy and freedom while we care about stability of society.

From this we can know that many western people are truly blaming the situation of freedom in China. Supporting the FTC is just to show their attitude. They're not attacking China.Actually they're attacking an imagery enemy who hates democracy and freedom. Is that our country? No.So they're attacking nothing. Then why would you be so angry my friends.^.^

How to solve the 'sense of value' problem? Enhancing communication is the first step.We must open our mind and welcome western people to come to our land.Let them see what happens on this great land.We can't keep fighting against everything and everyone,it's conceited and not a wise choice.

But now,in China people like me can't spread our voice.Since the actions of abroad student did, the nationalist in China can't be stopped.I'm not blaming them, they did that for good willing. Now,nationalist controls the power. They don't care about truth;they don't like to think. What they only care about is honor、honor、honor.

The impression of a nation can't be made by words or campaigns. We need practical and real action.

To build a fair platform for communication is the way to solve this problem.Or else there will be another Torch-like thing in future.I can't image a life with campaigns after campaigns.

Peking Impressions

This is the first time I've been to this city. However, since I don't want to use too much time describing subtle stuffs, let me cut this through and start talking about some impressions.

First, when I see those conductors on the bus, who don't sell tickets but just ask you to drop a coin, and those elevator drivers, or maybe captains or pilots or whatever you want to call them, I just think that for the first time I have seen a live and workable city in... Okay. This is not going to work. Let me rephrase it a little bit. The sphere of this city has greatly improved my confidence as being a Party member.

Second, service industry here seems to be undeveloped, and the service itself is not as good as in Southern China. Toilets in restaurants are not as clean as expected. There are no waiters handing towels to you after you washed your hand. Nobody cares about how long have you been waiting for your food. The worst situation - You walk in a store or a restaurant right after the service time is over, but there are still people working in it, they would just tell you, "We are closed". Maybe you would try to convince them that this wouldn't bring them any inconvenience, like "I just need...", and you would finally get convinced that you're really out of luck today.

Third, the whole city is really a huge parking lot during the rush hour. If you really got to travel during that time, you have two choices. One is that join the jam and get jammed; The other is that wait till the jam is over. No matter which you have chosen, your arrival time difference will be slight.

Although this city really has something that you can't find elsewhere, if you just want to have a modern life in China, there are still several choices out there, like Hong Kong or Canton.
