Earthquake(or aftershock) strikes Sichuan again at 16:31, Aug 1st

A friend in Chengdu told me that another earthquake had just happened there and the shaking lasted for about 1 mintue!

Here's a general translation of his Fanfou(A twitter like service in Chinese)

There have already been a couple of aftershocks and this one seems to be one of the biggest.

I really hope the people in Sichuan could be all safe. Everyone, every life!

FYI: Sichuan of China on the map, via Wikipedia:

It's reported that there's an other earthquake in Xiamen, Fujian China on July 5

When I was reading some posts at a forum in China, many people were talking about "another earthquake" in Xiamen, Fujian.

The reports are from Quanzhou, Xiamen, Zhangzhou .. and some are even saying that most place in South China had felt that shaking.

I am in Beijing now and did not feel anything. I just hope the "other earthquake" this time could be over asap... The people already lost a lot in Wenchuan Earthquake...

FYI: There is NO post in any mass media site currently (9:54AM in Beijing) and the people says the quake is happening in around 9:37 AM. I will update this post to follow.

Love & Responsibility - Memory of Earthquake

Full month ago near this moment on the day today, the shocking Sichuan Earthquake happened.....

A lot of things I did and many photos I watched as well as so much news I heard during the last month are now all bumping into my heart and let me tear....

Then I understand deeply that the best nature of our great Chinese Nation is love and responsibility!

Since we people love our motherland and nation, we could do donation with money, materials and even blood without any hesitation.  Since many individual volunteers love others, they could run at once to help the victims in disaster area. Since our Premier Wen Jiabao also loves the people, he could manage to get the disaster area at the first time and called out all country for help. Also, there is our Great Army and many root officials who did well and contributed greatly in the rescue...

However, only love is not enough. There is existing the Responsibility by which we Chinese People joined in forces to fight with the earthquake..

I believe that our China is prospective! I believe that the Chinese People is hopeful! With the enlightenment got from this disaster and other lessons, we will build a more blooming China!

Pondering deeply over the Earthquake

20 days passed after that Sichuan earthquake, but we people are still suffering from that huge disaster and feeling sad with the death and lost... Yes, there is still aftershocks everyday, many local people haven't settled down yet and the children there have to go to school at other places, etc....

However, besides paying close attention to so many issues there after the earthquake, I nowadays more and more keep my mind soaked into the meditation as follows:

1, Many children dies not due to the earthquake itself, but the bad quality of school buildings. I can never forget the photos which showed the died young lives and the helpless parents in front of the rubble piles..... Is that only God who can punish those dark minded constructors?

2, Our nation is really a good one with so many kind people who would like to donate when they are facing this disaster. Our current state government is also doing well on rescue. However, why not all the officials at all the time behaved so efficiently, so cleanly and so caringly before? I don't blame any individual official in any level of government, but I know deeply the key issue for creating bribe and corruption there. That was why I quit the official career with deep disappointment 15 years ago. I don't want to discuss deeply on such topic due to some well known reasons. I simply look forward to some historic transformation after this huge disaster!

3, .......

4, .......

Some one said: "Suffering or disaster is also a wealth, by which you can be stronger and cleverer." I wish our loved best motherland could be going ahead better and better after this disaster!

17 changes in daily life after the earthquake

This is just a translation from a post in Chinese by me. The earthquake did really change everything of many people's life!

  1. People used to greet with "Did you have the dinner?", now they say "Did you feel it(the shaking) last night?" instead.
  2. People used to care where their friends live, now they care on which floor do their friends live.
  3. People now always check carefully on the walls with a magnifier after every aftershock to make sure their house is safe.
  4. People now start to regard 2-floor as a very high place (to live)
  5. People now dislike those who always shake their legs.
  6. People now cannot bear with those who set their cell phones to vibration mode.
  7. People now are easy to get scared when their legs start to shake (even just ordinary shaking)
  8. People now feel very bad when the building is shaking. But after it stops shaking, people still worry about whether there would be another one. (No matter whether it is shaking, people are nervous)
  9. People served by CMCC swear to stop using CMCC while people served by China Unicom swear to stop using China Unicom. (CMCC and China Unicom are the only two mobile service provider in China, the mobile communication was not working for a very long time after the major quake in May 12)
  10. People now start to calculate how long will it take to run to the ground (from their rooms) as soon as they have nothing to do.
  11. People now start to carry a bag with the their most valuable belongings all the time.
  12. People now start to suspect themselves, and always ask each other, "Was there any shaking just now?"
  13. People now always try to stare at the glass of water every 5 minutes (to check whether there's a shock).
  14. People now are very interested in Geography knowledge.
  15. People now are very interested in life instinct
  16. People now hesitates about whether to put off there shoes every time before they go to bed.
  17. People now are always in front of a TV or a PC Screen, watching the news though most of the news has already been broadcast weeks before.

I hope the earthquake will never come back. Let's pray for the people in Sichuan!

16:21, Aftershock or major quake?

About half an hour ago (May 25th, 16:21), a friend in Xianyang Shaanxi told me that there was another quake, and all the people ran out of the buildings. Then I checked the SINA.com and saw there were another "aftershock" in west of Sichuan.

Now, the "Wenchuan Earthquake" had caused 62,664 deaths as of 12:00 AM. Sunday. The "aftershock", or even another major quake is just like a "fuel to the flames".

As far as I know, this "aftershock" is located in Qingzhou (via this Chinese page of SINA.com), I will update some news from my friends then. Good luck to the Sichuan people!

Until now, still no English updates for this aftershock as far as I know. Maybe there would be some from english.sina.com.

Update: This aftershock caused one more death and 260+ injuries, including 24 severe injuries.

May 19th: Chinese people stood in silent tribute for Quake victims (Video)

Update:

  • A traffic stats curve from Google China (via):
  • A picture from Leica's blog:
  • A video recorded by me:

The death toll is still climbing, Chinese government officials said on May 19th, as the country began three days of national mourning to honor the dead.

God bless the quake victims! May all the dead rest in peace.

This video was recorded by Aw Guo from ifgogo.com in Tian'anmen Square at May 19th, 14:28. More posts about the earthquake can be found at this url. When the mourning started, it was really so silent. I could only hear the whistles.

I will upload another video later here about the event today in Tian'anmen Square by me (What a pity that Youtube refuses to host a video longer than 10 minutes.)

Here is the report from Xinhua English:

BEIJING, May 19 (Xinhua) -- Millions of people in China and overseas observed three minutes silence at 2:28 p.m. Monday to mourn thousands of people killed in an earthquake which hit the nation's southwest a week ago.

Across the country, air raid sirens, cars, trains and ship horns wailed in grief as the people fell silent.

Chinese bourses and commodities exchanges also suspended trading for three minutes in remembrance of the earthquake dead.

The three-minute remembrance is part of three-day national mourning for those who died in the 8.0-magnitude earthquake. More than 32,000 people have been confirmed dead and the estimated death toll could top 50,000.

National flags flew at half mast, public entertainments were cancelled and the Olympic torch relay was suspended during the three-day mourning period.

Please take a look at these pictures.

The crying woman was trying to find her loved ones in the debris. in Mianyang county, Sichuan Province, more than 18 thousand people were trapped under the wreckage.

Parents are looking for their kids body on the playground. In Juyuan School, Dujiangyan County, Sichuan province. more than 300 kids were killed when the building collapsed

crying parents with their loved kids. their children were killed when the teaching building collapsed.

Please! Please help my kid!! He is still alive!!! The crying mother shouted.

Please help me get out of here...... I am still alive.....

When premier Wen saw hundreds of kids were killed by collapsed building, he cried without any words. During the earthquake, there are hundred and hundred kids were killed or were still trapped under those topple buildings.

Please please help those people, just do what you can do. Let's pray for those who suffered in the earthquake!~ Please donate for those people via: http://www.ifgogo.com/80/how-to-donate/
