Few words from newcomer

I’m writing this article with the title of "Few words from newcomer" for this is my first time of publishing article on ifgogo. But actually, I have been paid close attention to its updates since last May – when I knew AW via our university BBS. I think maybe due to my openness towards different cultures and long-term internship experience abroad, AW kindly invited me to be an author of ifgogo.

At the beginning, I considered ifgogo as a platform of introducing Chinese culture to Foreigners who're fascinated by its long history and rich heritage. Later, I found its authors focus more on describing the ways of life and inside thoughts of modern Chinese. After face-to-face talking with AW last week, I got more in-depth understanding toward the purpose of this website. As he told me, ifgogo is a freely-communicating platform which you can deliver whatever you want on it without restrictions of article styles or contents.

In terms of personality, I'm an outgoing person who would like to try everything that is fresh to me and share affecting details in life with friends. If you want to know more about me, just search "Monica Gao" on facebook or favourite this page.

Haha, I found what I have wrote already far ran out of “few words”!

So, hope to have nice talking with your guys on ifgogo and I will be OFFICIALLY starting my ifgogo-writings in the near future:), I promise!

The following is my pic which took in Wroclaw of Poland, 2007.

Hello Everyone @ ifgogo

Hi, this is Joshua Guan from Wuhan, China, now a graduate student of Computer Science in Huazhong University of Science And Technology. I'll spend last few months at school then go to Shanghai to start my career this July. So maybe my good days left won't be long :)

As an engineering student, most of my time is on technical things, but I don't wanna be that technical but more social, as a result I am also doing a lot of other interesting things, like BBS, SNS and blogging. Love all kinds of music, from Jazz to extreme metal music. Seldom watch TV, except for my favorite NBA. Used to read and write a lot, have dreamed to be a novelist. I have lots of interests, lots of dreams and lots of passions, so it won't be hard for anyone to find something in common with me, and be friends.

Seeing old friends and new friends here,  I'm willing to share my life and ideas with you all.  Many thanks to aw again for his hard work.

In the next post I will share something on using Twitter for fun.

Welcome to my Chinese blog:

The first year anniversary of ifgogo.com

As a team blog from China, we've been blogging for one year since our first post on October 16th. Thanks to all our great readers and authors, now we have 121 posts and 1,357 comments altogether. The very original idea of this blog was inspired in 2005, by a Flash developer from German who came across to my personal Chinese blog and asked me to update some stories in English. Then I blogged some posts in English but at last I stopped.

Blogging in English is very interesting but really hard for me. Anyway, English is not my mother language. Even weird, writing English posts in my personal blog also makes some my Chinese readers feel strange. (I proudly got some daily traffic in 2005)

However, as the internationalization(i18n) was introduced to more and more people over the world, I think it would be rather interesting to share our ideas about China, Chinese with people from all over the world who might be interested in such stories. In the late summer of 2007, I asked some of my friends: You, Lisa, Cat and many other friends about the idea. Many of them were interested and then we started up this team blog in October, named "ifgogo.com", just make it easy to remember.

I know it's really a hard task and it's a long way to go. Anyway, just enjoy blogging.

The 2008 Blog Action Day

Today is the Blog Action Day of 2008, on Poverty.

Poverty is a big trouble in China. We have a population of more than 1300 millions (1,321,851,888 on July 2007 est). but most of the people are from rural areas or small cities. Though the economy of our country is improving at a very high-speed, the gap between rich and poor is still rather big. And this causes many problems. The more I love my motherland, the more I have to admit this.

In early years, I lived in a big city named Wuhan in Hubei province. Chinese families were not likely to move around frequently, so the voices from the poverty could hardly be heard, especially the real living situation of those people. I still remember the first time to visit my grand father's village in 1994, I was so shocked! There's no TV and telephone. Many of them even didn't know what those things were. They could only "receive" information via radio and could never tell the outsiders how's their daily life like.

Fortunately, internet and blog do change our life! Not only for those who can blog about their real life, but also for us who can share our knowledge and information about this.

Blogging is not only a "talkshow" but also gave the details on how to help the poverty and refugee in the terrible 2008 Wenchuan earthquake. In that case, You did a very great job and that post was hit for thousands of times. I am proudly sure there must be someone donating their money via our information.

Thanks again for the great idea of Blog Action Day, we are not blogging lonely and our ideas could spread all over the world!

The great moment – Attending WordCamp China in Beijing

It was really a happy day. Good weather and great bloggers from all over China. The more exciting thing is that Automattic sent Matt Mullenweg and Hailin Wu to us. WordPress is really a great platform that makes almost everyone (who uses it) benefits from it. I've been a WordPress user since Feb, 2007 and the ifgogo blog is also built using WordPress from the very beginning.

Like a lot of other "WPers", I've been contributing to some themes and plugins of WordPress as well. And fortunately that I got a chance to contribute to the upcoming Video feature of WordPress.com service. That's really a great experience to contribute to such a big community.

As the idea of WordPress is everyone contributes and everyone benefits, I hope the ifgogo project would follow the same way. We don't blog for money and fame, we just blog for the readers especially those who leave sweet or critical feedbacks to our interesting (or even bored) stories ;) - Though the ifgogo blog is currently still very young and simple, I am sure it will bring you happiness and friends every author blogs.

However, for some infamous and ridiculous reasons, people in China seldom express themselves to the public but the WordPress system really give everyone a chance to do, or at least to try, and finally becomes a blogger :) The WordCamp then gathers the great bloggers together to meet, and share.

To share, to contribute and also to get the friends, responses and sometimes benefits, that's why we blog for today, and tomorrow.

Say Hello

(spoken)
M-Hey there. How you doing?
W-Hi, my name is Mary.
M-Hi

You may know from what has been said above, there has a song called "say hello" from Rossie Thomas. That was what I wanna to say to the whole lovely guys on Ifgogo today. (Absolutely I'll never mind to sing my favorite song to everyone here, the voice sounding will harsh to your ear. Hah~)

Now let's get dawn to brass tacks:)

My name's Lu Liu, from Hunan Huaihua. I'm a sophomore in Wuhan University of Science and Engineering, the computer science is my speciality what I had taken a real liking to.

As a new author I believe whosover in here all has his/her own personality, that's why AW make the decision to build Ifgogo to collect all the different thought from everyone, everywhere. A great share, is it so?

My personality was more described like a noisy boy. Hah~ I played Counter-Strike more than 6 years since my junior middle school, is it sound strange? I'm not a professional student under the examination-oriented education system of being recognized by myself. That's why I'm here, Wuhan, not in Beijing 2008:(  But I love the place where I lived 2 years at present, too many wonderful memories happenned here.

Any also I like to found what interesting in people's normal life use abnormal mode, you'll be think it's strange behavior and hardly understand ? Okay, I'll show you all in my near summer vacation. Thx for welcome :)

We are Bound by a Golden Thread Called Friendship

Dear fellows, I’d like to begin my article with heartfelt gratitude to our administrator, Mr. Guo. Without his painstaking efforts, this website would not have come into being, and we, people from different parts of the world, would not be able to meet each other online, either. The cyberspace, just like a long and lovely thread, binds people of common interests together. Owing to its development, we now can post writings, exchange ideas and get enlightenment in this wonderful garden. With the passage of time, there lies the possibility that we could establish closer relationships here. “If you have friends who know your heart, distance can not keep you apart”, as an old saying goes.

To speak of Mr. Guo, I cannot help but recall the wonderful story of him. If my memory serves me right, two years ago, I happened to visit awflasher.com, and got to know its designer, whose inexhaustible passion, infinite ingenuity, and immeasurable expertise touched me immensely, and urged me to make friends with that talented guy. Luckily, I managed to have his QQ number and chatted with him on and off via the Internet. No matter how busy he was, Mr. Guo treated me with great patience and kindness every time I asked him some technical questions. Therefore, from the past till present, I do believe that he is the kind of person in whom you can have confidence, a person to whom you can turn for help, and a person from whom you can learn a lot. It is true that we are still not bosom friends, yet I enjoy being an ordinary net friend of him, just as another statement declares, “Subtle friendship is true; subtle greetings are enough; subtle love is tender; subtle longing is deep;subtle wishes come from the bottom of your heart.”

Admittedly, there is a limit to our life, but to knowledge there is no limit. On the way towards seeking knowledge and truth, I am filled with happiness since I have got so many people to travel all along with me , though our final destinations might not be the same. Thank you for being my friend!

Hi, this is William from Shanghai

Author in Ifgogo - William - hunz.cn

Hi, all,

: )

This is William(Hunz) from Shanghai. Born in Quanzhou, a lovely city near Xiamen. Now a junior student of Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade,  major in law. Well, the school is located in a university town where seven different  universities settled. Around a number of 70, 000 students here.

Personally, Rock 'n' Roll music, table tennis, soccer and reading are what I love. I've read a lot of a prose-poems and morden master pieces. Doctor Lin Yutang is the composer I admire. He set the model for us that man should both hold the tradition and master foreign knowledge. I believe that it's meaningful to promote East-West exchanges. Communication must be the best way for us to get rid of misunderstanding.

Huh, I am probably one of the youngest guyz here, gonna take every chance to learn from you gentlemen and ladies.

You wrote great posts here.

:-)

On this blog, I would like to share some ideas. As I am living in the very 1st and biggest University Town of China, voice of Chinese university students can be heard directly, further posts would be written on these parts. I really hope we can helpthe world to understand China, both the body and mind of China.

Looking forward to talking and writing with you.

Across the pacific, bloggers meet in person

We all know that blogging is just part of life. However, meeting bloggers in person would be much more interesting and real, especially meeting those far away from you, as far as on the other side of earth!

On May 21st. I met Lisa, Elliot Ng and Christine-lu in Beijing. We had a nice talk and dinner together. We talked about many funny things, like Internet in China, Chinese bloggers, Chinese web developers, blog SEO as well as the statistics of both CNReviews.com and ifgogo.com. Our 58-year-old cute aunt Lisa even introduced us many special knowledge from her rich experience, including face reading, chiromancy, blood-type analytics etc.

It's really tired for us but we all were so excited to see each other. I am sure CNReviews.com and ifgogo.com will become much more valuable and funnier in the future. Elliott said that the bloggers at CNReviews are all very dedicated while I'm working hard to improve the author-experience and to start an author-rating system, in order to deliver the best content to our readers (To absorb more great authors with different backgrounds other than IT).

Here are two photos of us. (Thanks to Christine-lu).

We met up at the newest Terminal3 of Beijing airport. Lisa and me wrote a cute "Elliott Ng @ CNReviews" on a piece of paper to catch him on the exit.

I showed some statistics of ifgogo.com on Google Analytics to Elliott:

Happy Valentine's Day: )

Hi, everybody! It's Gijo here. Home, in Jinan. Nice to meet you guys: )

I'm a 23-year-old girl, now studying Clinical Medicine in Tongji Medical College of Huazhong University of Science and Technology. It's my fifth year in college. Unlike other students, I'm in a seven-year teaching system. In the summer of 2010, I'll graduate and get my master's degree.

In my class, all the subjects are taught in English. The assignments, presentations, and examinations are all in English. That's a lot of pressure, and motivation as well.

A few days ago, Aw introduced Ifgogo to me. It's so nice to be invited as an author. I like the idea and atmosphere of this team-blogging website. We'll make it more interesting and attractive, I think.

Today's V-Day. Hope everyone has fun: )
