UPDATE: Another funny one on how they built this great stuff (though not the same, haha):
As we know that the Bird Nest (Beijing National Stadium) is a must-visit place in Beijing for the great Olympic Games 2008, there are also some funny pictures of it. Here I find one of them in Xiaonei.com:
I guess it's made by some Chinese farmers. The farmers in China are really of great creativity :)
FYI, more about the real Bird Nest Stadium (via Wikipedia)
The stadium can seat as many as 91,000 spectators during the Olympics. The capacity will then be reduced to 80,000 after the Games. It has replaced the original intended venue of the Guangdong Olympic Stadium.[5] The stadium is 330 metres long by 220 metres wide, and is 69.2 metres tall. The stadium uses 258,000 square metres of space and has a usable area of 204,000 square metres. It was built with 36 km of unwrapped steel, with a combined weight of 45,000 tonnes.[5] The stadium will cost up to 3.5 billionyuan (≈423 million USD).[5]
Here's my personal experience and tips, hope this could make sense for your travel in Beijing:
The subway security check
My experience: The line 10 subway in Beijing is now also asking people to take security checks.
Tip: Please don't bring strange "liquid" with you, or you will be asked to take a taste ( what if that's your urine for a health check? )
The university security check
My experience: The UIBE (University of International Business and Economics) is asking people who enters its campus for related "credentials".
Tip: Please find a student who studies in the specified university you wanna enter. Or you may have to fill a very complicated form :)
Though we all know that "security checks" are only a palliative (measure) in the fight against terrorism, we have to face something sometimes, here is the picture:
(I am sorry that the picture is removed for unknown reasons)
Anyway, I don't care about the Games itself much, nor do I care about the politics, I just how that everyone can be safe and undisturbed.
